A non-profit established in 1887, the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) is most widely known for hosting the city’s pinnacle event, the Boston Marathon. In December 2023, the BAA unveiled its celebratory Boston Marathon jacket to the public.

The jacket is a collaboration between the BAA and sporting apparel giant Adidas. The unveiling comes before the 128th Boston Marathon is held in April 2024.

The jacket itself is blue with red sleeves. Incidentally, it is the color of the French, Norwegian, and American flags, which represents an invitation to runners around the world to compete in Paris 2024, symbolic of the American city where the Boston Marathon is held, and is in honor of Norwegian runner Grete Waitz, who won silver in the 1984 women’s marathon in Los Angeles.

President and CEO of the BAA, Jack Fleming, stated that the Boston Marathon Celebration Jacket also represents the discipline, dedication, and hard work embodied in the runners who show up on Patriot’s Day to run the marathon. This more than three-decade-long collaboration between BAA and Adidas has culminated in this apparel that celebrates the accomplishments of the athletes.
